What Can We Learn From Sin Crouching At Our Door?

The story of Cain and Abel sets us up to see the tragedy of how jealousy, shame, and guilt can cause us to protect ourselves in harmful ways. Anger, frustration, rage and upset feelings are all protective type of feelings that normally show up instead the vulnerability in our heart.

Cain demonstrates this by striking his brother down and giving into the sin that God warned him about.

Lessons to Ponder

  • What sin is crouching at our own door today?
  • Are we really so different from Cain? He reacts out of anger and feeling less than.
  • God hears Abel's blood cry out from the ground, injustice calls to God.
  • This is another point in which God gives wisdom that is not used and where a human does what is good in their own eyes.
  • Can we recognize the ways we protect ourselves in relationships?

Matt Tilley and Craig Foust are two Christians that are mental health counselors. We have a heart for Christians that are suffering from mental health and feel that this makes them less than and unworthy.
